2017 has been a letdown. A massive one. Thankfully we have a few more months and a few more blockbusters left. So not all hope is lost. Warner Bros. ‘Kong: Skull Island’ offers a diversion from all of this years terrible films namely, “The Mummy”, “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”, “The Circle”, “Baywatch”, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul”, and most recently “Transformers 5: The Last Knight” (which, on the date of writing, I’m am being forced to see tonight). The film follows a group of military people and scientists as they try to search for a secret island. They get more than they asked for as King Kong kills most of the crew and the people who are alive must escape with the help of a man who also crashed there nearly 30 years ago. This film doesn’t go for too much exposition and delves straight into the gorilla-filled action. It doesn’t skip out on too much of the creature carnage as it features someone getting an arm ripped off in the distance, blood splattering, and people getting eaten or stomped on. The film boasts stunning visuals which is expected of a film of this caliber. But what annoyed me the most was the character of Preston Packard. He grated on my nerves 24/7. But All in all, the film has well-filmed action, okay characters, and a nail biting spectacle with stunning visuals.
