SETI: Search For Extraterestrial Life

Ever wonder about aliens ?

Are they coming for us ?

Are they nice ?

Well put your questions in the hands of SETI ,the alien pros. SETI is a scientific institute whose mission is to find alien life. If they are lucky their radars could find alien life. It was created by Frank Drake and Carl Sagan. SETI uses information found by their creators and other scientists like Stephen Hawking. By using what they have they are uncovering the-things-not-known type facts.

They have a large satellite array in Puerto Rico that can be used to detect any alien planets that can be communicated with.

An award winning scientist named Jill Tarter explains factors of finding aliens in this Ted-Ed video.

Before you say “I wish I could do that,” consider the Drake equation (it is the basis for finding alien life but there is no right answer to it) which is :

N = R* • fp • ne • fl • fi • fc • L.

The meanings of the factors are:

N = The number of civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy whose electromagnetic emissions are detectable.
R* =The rate of formation of stars suitable for the development of intelligent life.
fp = The fraction of those stars with planetary systems.
ne = The number of planets, per solar system, with an environment suitable for life.
fl = The fraction of suitable planets on which life actually appears.
fi = The fraction of life bearing planets on which intelligent life emerges.
fc = The fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space.
L = The length of time such civilizations release detectable signals into space.

If you think video games or sci-fi movies are cooler ,think again. These people are taking their time to answer life’s biggest question: Is their more intelligent life in the universe other than us.
