Kiva is an online organization that accepts donations of $25 or more to help people who are in need of money for many different reasons (from ‘for a business’ to ‘college tuition fees’). Kiva was established in 2005 and since then it has gained one million users. It reaches out to many of the world’s rural areas and provides support for them. They work with each countries field partner. Then the field partner distributes the money to the people whom you loaned the money out to. Pretty much, it works like a well-oiled machine.
I got involved with Kiva first in 2014. Since then I have made six loans in 5 different countries. Out of those loans, I have 2 that are fully repaid, 1 that ended in a loss, and 3 of them are pending. So far I have been able to help people in need in many rural areas. I enjoy going on Kiva, because I get to be kind of like a businessman. I have to decide who is trustworthy and who’s cause am I interested in. I have been able to give people the money they need so that they can live a happy, plentiful life. Now I know, I can go through my life knowing that I helped many different people. I have loaned a grand total of $150 dollars. I have made loans in Rwanda, Mali, Zimbabwe, Peru, and Iraq. But, this is only the beginning.
Using Kiva is a learning experience and I have learned many things. I have been able to learn more about people’s lives. Learning about people’s lives is interesting and I found out about their hardships and struggles. Learning about people’s lives also helped me learn about how that country makes a profit, because of what the person does for a living. Is it industry or agriculture? I also learned about the effects of poverty in a certain country. All of this helps me expand my knowledge capacity about the world I live in.
So, what would you do to impact a person’s life. Comment bellow!!!
